Justin Nelson of JP Morgan Reflects on Three Decades
Nearly thirty years into his career, Justin Nelson has plenty of ways he could measure success. He could point to the more than fifteen billion dollars in assets he oversees as Managing Director and Head of the Asset Management and Financial Principals Coverage Team at JP Morgan Private Bank. Instead, when asked to define success at this stage of his career, Nelson pointed to something harder to quantify on any single report.
What Changes Over Time
Nelson works out of JP Morgan’s Connecticut office, where he has spent years building relationships with clients and their extended families. “A lot of that is about trust, and that’s something that you build up with someone over time,” he says. Justin Nelson JP Morgan contrasts his early years in the business with where he stands now. “If you’re doing something like what I do for the first couple of years, it’s very different than if you’ve been doing it for close to 30 years. Relationships are different when you really get to know people.”
That perspective shapes how Nelson talks about his twenty-person team, many of whom are still building the kind of long-term client relationships he has spent decades developing. He describes watching that growth as one of the more rewarding parts of his role at JP Morgan, and one that took years to appreciate fully.
Fulfillment Over Titles
Justin Nelson says some of his client relationships now stretch past twenty years, extending to a second generation of family members. He calls that continuity, not any title or account balance, the real reward of a long career in wealth management. After three decades in the industry, Nelson still describes his work in personal terms: helping people solve problems and make an impact on their daily lives. Visit this page for related information.
