Transparency international and corruption perception index is a topic that almost all publications have published. However, it comes to light that very little about the process is known. It is, however, vital for one to interpret the published indexes correctly. Understanding the indexes brings out elements necessary for the interpretation of the results.

The three institutions research for two years by conducting interviews and studies. The interviews may involve perceptions of the public sector in regards to corruption. There are several points to note;

One, the research is carried out by different institutions. The commonly known include AFDB, World Bank, and the World Economic Forum. However, they may not research every country. For example, the geographical location of AFDB gives it an added advantage when conducting interviews in Africa.

The second point states that one country can have several institutions conducting research. At times, you will find nine different institutions conducting research. Brazil had eight different research while Poland had ten. While conducting the study, the institutions employ different methodologies.

Bruno Fagali continues to highlight that different methodologies come with different questions. The questions may range from the process of government nominations and appointments to general issues such as bribery. They may also involve academics, their experts, and even the general public.

Despite the indexes ratings, information supporting them is subjective and collected heterogeneously. Also, daily reports have a significant influence on the individuals conducting the research.

Thirdly, America must then provide education so that the Hispanic immigrants coming in can learn the necessary trades, techniques, and skills to add to this country. Fourthly, there must be corporations who agree to hire Hispanic workers so that they can be fully integrated.

Together with a few members of his campaign, DeVos decided to take action against the building plans. He gathered business leaders and more that were eventually part of the construction of several centers that the DeVos couple backed entirely. For example, this group helped build the Grand Rapids City Market and the DeVos Place Convention Center among other things.



Both Dick and Betsy DeVos were heirs to their family fortunes, and this helped them over the years as they tried to back and change various institutions and policies that they have disagreed with in the past. Betsy DeVos has worked for years to expand charter schools and more. Together, they have implemented their family foundation, which donates funds to various programs like arts, culture, health, churches and even human service programs.



In 2006, the couple donated funds to help build a children’s hospital, and they even had a portion of it named after Dicks’ mother. Their efforts, along with more, have helped the hospital provide those in the Grand Rapids area with the opportunity to get their health care from local sources instead of driving long distances for care.



To date, education reform has been the biggest initiatives undertaken by the DeVos couple. Together, they have been advocating for education reform, which is one thing that led to Betsy’s new role as the Secretary of Education for the United States, appointed by President Donald Trump.



While Betsy is working hard in Washington D.C. in her new position, Dick DeVos is working hard back in their home city of Grand Rapids. He is running his firm, called The Windquest Group, and he is also working closely with various business leaders to provide better routes from the Gerald R. Airport, which he has been working to reestablish as a thriving airport.



His efforts have not been in vain, either. DeVos has found ways to help the airport grow by offering consumers lower airfares and more. He has also spent a good bit of time with his wife as she undertakes an important mission in Washington D.C. Together, this relatively conservative couple has made history not only for their roles in society but for the causes that they support. The DeVos family have used their fortunes from their respective families to help them further support their causes for many years.



The two of them have been important assets to the Grand Rapids area, and their hard work is taking them further throughout the country, providing better schools and better airports for many people. Now that they are both on a larger stage, Betsy and her husband Dick DeVos are going to be working furiously to continue their work in both education reform and building up of the Grand Rapids city as a whole.

How the Frontera Fund Came to Be

In the early 70s, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin started their first newspaper. Lacey grew up in Newark, NJ and moved to Arizona to attend school. He’d learned how important education was from his father, who was a construction worker. Lacey started college in the late 60s. By the early 70s, he’d met Jim Larkin. By that time, Lacey had already gotten into writing. Just before meeting Larkin, he’d written the inaugural issue of Phoenix New Times with some fellow students. Not long after joining forces, both men dropped out of school to focus on their new newspaper.

Before long, New Times was a thriving piece of Phoenix culture. It was one of the few news sources that didn’t have an ultra-conservative viewpoint on current events. That divide between real news and slanted news would eventually lead Larkin and Lacey to dispute with the local sheriff.

The sheriff in question was Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County. Fighting the ultra-conservative views of the local majority meant they supported migrant rights, which wasn’t a popular belief in Arizona at that time. Sheriff Arpaio, despite being a man of the law, directly opposed migrant rights and didn’t like Latinos being in his community.

All of this started after New Times wrote a story about the sheriff’s side dealings. Most of Arizona’s media coverage of Sheriff Arpaio made him look like a hero or a benign sheriff just doing his job. New Times revealed that he was, in fact, a racist, abusive man who enjoyed doing wrong.

Most shockingly, his personally hosted and led anti-Mexican fear-mongering rallies. He also used his power to silence anyone that tried to undermine him or reveal any of his side businesses. Eventually, they made him so mad, he had them arrested. The arrests sound more like kidnappings considered how they occurred. In any case, Lacey and Larkin weren’t jailed long before public outcry demanded they be released.

When they were released, they wrote a complete story about their dealings with the sheriff; then they filed a lawsuit against Maricopa County. That suit ended with them being awarded a $3.75 million settlement. They used that money to create the Frontera Fund.
