Betsy Devos Rethinks her Position on the Transgender Bill

The transgender issue has been a very tough bill for most people to deal with. The whole transgender issue is a hot topic that most people want to avoid. One of the most complicated aspects of the transgender dilemma has to do with public bathrooms. Many people believe that transgender individuals should not have access to public bathrooms that are different from their natural birth gender.

In other words, transgender men should not be able to use female bathrooms just because they profess to be females. Also, transgender women, should not be allowed to use male laboratories just because they resemble males on the outside. This issue is extremely complex because many people are divided over it.

Betsy Devos is the nation’s 11th U.S. Secretary of Education. She was selected to this position back in 2016 by President Donald Trump. As the Secretary of Education, Devos makes federal laws and mandates regarding America’s education system. One of the most important responsibilities that she has is allocating federal funds to public school districts in need.

Back on May 13, 2016; former President Barack Obama passed the Transgender Bill which gave transgender people the right to use the public bathroom of their professed gender. Many conservatives where outraged at his decision. Betsy Devos was not thrilled about it either but she understood why President Obama took this action.

On the surface, the Transgender community might seem like it is a happy go lucky place to be. The sad reality is that it is not. The transgender community is suffering because people within this community are killing themselves at an extremely high rate. There is a 40% suicide rate among transgender people. Also, this communities suffers from outside harassment, exploitation and indifference.

Devos realizes that transgenders who use public bathroom within schools should use facilities that correspond to their professed identity. If they do not, they could easily be harassed or even harmed by people who do not agree or are ignorant of their plight.

Mrs. Devos is a devout Christian and a strong supporter of conservative views. While she does not support the transgender lifestyle, that does not mean she wants bad things to happen this group of people. Devos supports a lot charities and causes. She has even lent her support to the gay community even though she does not agree with their lifestyle.

In February of 2017, Donald Trump passed legislation that would dismantle the Transgender Bill. The Republican Party considers this legislation to be a major victory in the transgender struggle. Betsy Devos understood its importance, but she was reluctant to agree. However, President Trump told her to back the bill, otherwise she might have to resign her position. Devos realized that she had to rethink how she viewed this matter. She signed the bill so that she could continue to provide America schools the best chance to succeed.
